en Nutrition Original Article Original Article <span style="font-family:Times New Roman;"><span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="line-height:14pt"><b><i><span style="color:blue">Background</span></i></b><i><span style="color:blue">:</span></i> Vitamin D is a modifiable risk factor in cancer and prostate diseases. In this study, we investigate the relationship between vitamin D and serum PSA in elderly men of Amirkola City.</span><br> <span style="line-height:14pt"><b><i><span style="color:blue">Methods:</span></i></b> <span lang="EN">The current cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on elderly men participating in the cohort study in Amirkola. Demographic information including age, sex, marital status and occupation were recorded</span> and <span lang="EN">blood samples (5 cc of blood) were taken to measure PSA and vitamin D. A p -value less than 0.05 is statistically significant.</span><span style="font-size:10.0pt"></span></span><br> <span style="line-height:14pt"><b><i><span style="color:blue">Results:</span></i></b> <span lang="EN">After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 837 elderly men with mean age of 69.99 </span><span dir="RTL" lang="FA">&plusmn;</span><span lang="EN"> 7.72 years were included in the study. In terms of marital status, 779 (93.1%) were married and 59 (6.9%) were single. In the study of employment status, 476 (56.9%) self-employed, 331 (439.5%) retired, 8 (1.0 %) housewives, 14 (1.7%) unemployed and 8 (1.0 %) They were in an unknown situation. The mean level of vitamin D was 31.94 </span><span dir="RTL" lang="FA">&plusmn;</span><span lang="EN"> 28.57 ng / mL and the mean level of PSA was 1.94 &plusmn; 3.28 ng / dL. No significant relationship was found between vitamin D level and serum PSA in Pearson Correlation test (P = 0.16).
